Population growth, industry, large numbers of cars and intensive agriculture all lead to pollution. Pollution also enters the Netherlands through rivers and the air. The new National Environmental Policy Plan aims to make all of society aware of environmental issues. The government makes agreements with companies to reduce the environmental burden. The companies make their own environmental plans. So far, this approach has worked very well. Dutch factories are now among the worldís cleanest.
